Only 7 pct of companies have embraced activity based working concept

"We’ve met here today at the Skanska Property Poland office. It’s been arranged in line with Activity Based Working. This might be regarded as a very popular concept, but our office was one of the first in Poland to be arranged for ABW and today, there are just a few companies that have done this," told us Ewelina Kałużna, leasing and asset management director at Skanska Property Poland.

"According to our research, it’s only 6-7 pct. of companies in Poland. We have a lot of tenants, though, that are interested and want to implement it. I think that if we meet again in three years time the percentage will be much higher. It’s not a structure that suits every company. These days it’s usually, advisory companies or media, IT and modern business service companies. We have to remember that Activity Based Working, is not so much about having fewer desks, which is often what employees most worry about. The number of workplaces in such an office is higher, but the workstations are different," said Ewelina Kałużna. "On entering the office, An employee checks his/her calendar and decides, how they are going to work that day. eg. In the morning at a desk, as there is a particular task to do, later there’s a project with a larger group - so a room for a bigger number of people. They can choose between a round table, a conference room, or a chill out room with bean bags and a whiteboard that helps with creativity. They can sit on a couch or meet in the kitchen. Later they might hold a meeting with a customer in a conference room. So, an employee does not use just one desk that becomes blocked for this person - the workstation moves around the office," explained director at Skanska.
