TVP shows patience

Construction firm Pia Piasecki has been granted a reprieve from its recent troubles by TVP, the state-owned television company. A contract for a new car-park and office building, (of 16,000 sqm), will go ahead despite a four-month delay in the construction, which had been scheduled for completion in February 2003. TVP are keen to re-house its advertising subsidiary, Biuro Reklamy, from Curtis Plaza to the new premises nearer its headquarters and another schedule is to be drawn up with Pia Piasecki.

Mitex and Budimex the biggest

With an income around PLN 800 mln, Kielce-based company Mitex was the most successful Polish constructor in 2001, according to the list of 100 published by Murator. The next companies in the ranking were Exbud Skanska, (PLN 620 mln) and Warbud, (PLN 500 mln.)
The largest capital group was found to be Budimex with an income of around PLN 2.5 bln. Exbud Skanska with PLN 2.3 and Mostostal Zabrze with PLN 1.2 bln of income, came second and third respectively.

Car-parks for Kraków

Kraków city authorities have chosen the Mitex and Eiffage consortium to construct seven car parks. The first one should be complete in September 2004 and the last in March 2005.
Construction of a single car-park will cost between PLN 20 - 25 mln depending on the size and location. The city authorities are to provide the plots and the consortium will finance, build and operate the car-parks for 30 to 37 years, after which they will become the city's property.

Warbud signs contract to build border bridge

On September 18th, Polish construction firm Warbud signed a contract, worth PLN 7.2 mln, (EUR 1.8 mln.), with road crossings' operator Lubelski Zarad Drogowych Przejsc Granicznych, (LZDPG), in Chełm east Poland. They will build a bridge over the border crossing in Kukuryki and it will be complete within ten months.

Siekierkowski Bridge opens

Siekierkowski Bridge, suspended on two pylons, was opened on 21st September over Warsaw's River Wisła but construction of two intersections, which began in March 2000, between uls. Czerniakowska and Wał Miedzeszyński, (on the left and right-hand banks respectively) is still in progress and the last section of Trasa Siekierkowska, of over 8 km, will be delivered in 2005.
Construction of the bridge and the roads is to cost around PLN 720 million and Mostostal Warszawa, Warbud, WPRD, Dromex, Mosty Łódź and Mosty Płock have all had some involvement in the investment.

Official: Budimex the winner

The Head of the Department of Infrastructure, Marek Pol, has approved the verdict of the tender committee which selected the Budimex and Ferrovial consortium as general contractor in the tender for the Okecie airport extension. The official announcement reads that ,the tender procedure and decisions made by the General Director of PPL comply with the valid legislation". The General Director of PPL may now negotiate and conclude an agreement for the project with the Budimex-Ferrovial consortium. ,We will analyse the decision and the Ministry of Infrastructure's explanations thoroughly," said Uwe Krüger, President of Hochtief Polska, after the Ministry's statement.


Hydrobudowa's contract for A2 highway

The Polish firm Hydrobudowa is to build part of a bridge on the stretch of the A2 road, between Nowy Tomysl and Komorniki, in north west Poland. A contract for PLN 22.4 (EUR 5.5 mln) was signed between the firm and Swedish constructor NCC on 2nd September and construction is due to be complete by November 2003.
