Aquapark in Sopot

Aquapark, the biggest of its kind in Poland, has opened in Sopot, attracting 4,000 people on its first day. The development, (with a total usable area of over 11 thousand sqm.), consists of seven swimming pools totalling 1,700 sqm and also contains a "wild river", two chutes, eight saunas and bars and restaurants. Prokom Investments and Mostostal Gdańsk were behind the project and the latter was also general contractor of construction, which took a year and a half. The investment cost PLN 65,5 million.

Wola Park open

Wola Park, the biggest retail centre in Poland, has opened. The development of the 73,000 sqm., owned by Auchan Polska and the CERPF (Central European Retail Property Fund), contains a hypermarket (17,600 sqm.) and a shopping gallery with 189 shops, (about 125 shops are already open for business).
The Auchan hypermarket in Wola Park is the fifteenth and biggest of the French chain in Poland. Director Francois Colombié of Auchan Polska, announced that they would open about 15 new stores over the next 5 years.
Work around Wola Park is still in progress and the whole project will cost about EURO 100 million including PLN 12 million to widen Górczewska street. The general contractor is Bouygues Polska.

LPP's new outlet

Polish clothing company LPP is to open a new outlet in May next year, after signing a ten-year rental agreement worth PLN 10.2 mln, with Ceraco Development on September 6th. The new premises, situated on ul. Chmielna Warsaw, will have an area of 241 sqm.
There are already seven LPP outlets in Warsaw, the last of which opened in July this year on Nowy Swiat, with an area of 222 sqm.

New shopping centre in Olkusz

The Polish developer Echo Investment opened a shopping centre in Olkusz, southern Poland, on 17th September. Constructed by Mitex, the centre's largest tenant is Hypernova hypermarket, (owned by Dutch retailer Ahold), which will occupy 4,950 sqm. of the total 7,500 sqm. available. Small retailers and service companies including RTV AGD Womak, CCC, Rossman, Fotojoker and Zielona Budka take up the rest of the space. There will be 350 parking spaces.

Kaskada closer to construction in Szczecin

Agreements between ECE Projektmanagement and Szczecin City Council have been signed: to both transfer ownership of the city-owned land where Galeria Kaskada retail centre will be built and re-house tenants currently living in the building, on the proposed project's site.
ECE are to invest EURO 100 million in the project and construction of the 75,000 sqm. Galeria Kasada will begin either at the end of 2002 or at the beginning of 2003. The development will contain at least 100 shops, 850 parking spaces and a new puppet show theatre.

Muszkieter's new retail and service chains

French retail group Muszkieter is to introduce the clothing chain Vetimarché and car service operators, Stationmarché, to Poland.
Up until now the French group has been managing DIY store Bricomarché and food outlet Intermarche. According to the Polish daily 'Puls Biznesu', the Vetimarché and Intermarché stores will be located near one another and the former will offer cheaper as well more expensive clothes. The Stationmarché chain will compete with other companies specialising in express car servicing.

PSB's trial period for DIY stores

Building materials' wholesalers Polskie Składy Budowlane is set to open five DIY stores by the end of 2002. According to spokesman Mirosław Lubarski, these outlets will initially operate on an experimental basis, so that the company's ability to manage such concerns can be assessed. He added that the locations of the five new stores are still being reviewed as PSB has more than twenty applications from its shareholders to consider.
In the longer term, PSB has set its sights on opening up to two hundred stores of the next seven years, at a cost of up to PLN 400 mln (EUR 97.8 mln).
