Change: one of three things that never does

In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes – or so Benjamin Franklin once apparently said. I would add a third item to this list: change. Nothing stays the same forever, whether we are talking about our private lives or business.

Mayland multiplies

POLAND The fifteen-year-old Fort Wola shopping centre in Warsaw is to be renovated, rebranded and enlarged from its present 30,000 sqm to 42,000 sqm. This will involve the opening of a 24,000 sqm Ikea store in the complex at ul. Połczyńska 4. Ikea Wola will be the eleventh store of the chain in Poland. Fort Wola will also be renamed Galeria na Woli.

Trumping all expectations

The election of Donald Trump as president has so far not led to Armageddon on the global stock exchanges. The plunge caused by the news of this surprising outcome lasted just half a day before U.S. markets bounced back – as did the American dollar. In Poland the index changes were slight, with the construction companies’ sub-index turning out to be the weakest

More perceptive than Poirot

He arrived in Poland a quarter of a century ago and eventually became one of our top real estate investors – but Christmas trees and asparagus turned out to be excellent businesses, too

Cool in Cannes

The MAPIC 2016 trade fair opened on November 16th, as always, in Cannes. The hectic three days that followed gave real estate people the possibility to learn more about the latest trends in retail from around the world and meet everyone they are not able to every day. And the number of meetings reached those you normally have in half a year – according to one Polish developer

Let’s ruin a new home

Every mature Eurobuild reader has certainly experienced moving house and/or a home renovation at some point. Most of you are unlikely to forget this experience – and it may still haunt your nightmares for years to come. I’ve recently played my part in such an episode, which bordered on turning into a Greek tragedy or an American horror…
