Honour and obligation

Feature
Filip Kryłowicz, the director of Arkadia in Warsaw, has been chosen as the shopping centre manager of the year by tenants. He was the clear winner in Millward Brown’s survey carried out for the Eurobuild Awards 2017

How does it feel to be the best shopping centre manager in Poland?

I am extremely surprised by this award. I would very much like to thank the tenants personally as well as on behalf of Arkadia’s entire team. To be presented with this award is an honour but also represents an important obligation.

What do you believe has been the key to your success?

Each success depends on the work you do every day, which will at some point be appreciated by others. As a director I try to be available to tenants and to be open to each of their suggestions. I always try to address their issues as quickly as possible.

What aspects do you consider to be the most important in your work?

First of all, direct contact with some very interesting and inspiring people. Honesty and openness are essential in this relationship. I always try to treat each business partner with respect.

What brings you the most satisfaction in your work?

It’s important for me to find a good solution to each problem that arises. I believe that it’s worth enjoying not only the big successes but also the small ones. I think that tenants appreciate the fact that Arkadia’s team tries to react to any problems they may have as quickly as possible. This award confirms that we are simply doing our job well.

What is the greatest challenge you face?

Managing one of the largest shopping centres in the country, which is also visited by a huge number of customers, is a serious responsibility. All the time I have to strike the right balance between tenants’ expectations and customers’ requirements – and both are continuing to grow.

What do you expect the retail market to be like over the next few years?

There has been a clear increase in competition on the shopping centre market. However, this also has its positive side, as it has led to an improvement in the quality of centres. Our guests expect the entertainment zones in centres to become much more important, as is reflected in every survey. At the same time they consider it important to be able to relax and meet friends in a good restaurant, which is why we decided to open the Grand Kitchen zone in Arkadia, which features cuisine from around the world. We are constantly trying to improve the range of our services. Arkadia also provides customers with relaxation areas, free stylist consultations and a concierge service – in fact, everything a four-star shopping centre should offer.
