So much owed to so few

Eurobuild Awards
Never before have such distinctions been awarded in the history of the Eurobuild Awards. Five companies: JLL, Ghelamco, Griffin Real Estate, JLL and Panattoni Europe have been singled out for their achievements over the past decade

Ten years is a long time in real estate. It’s enough time for new companies, hungry for success to displace previously established firms on the market. It’s long enough for new investors to appear and overthrow the previous order. Towers are built at ever greater expense as our skyline creeps towards the heavens, while warehouses are being constructed of previously unimagined sizes. Who has contributed most to these changes? This year at the tenth Eurobuild Awards Gala the Awards of the Decade are to be handed over to those companies that have contributed most to the changes that have taken place over the past ten years.

The task of recognising the winners was entrusted to a jury that gathered at the Hotel Warszawa on one November morning. It comprised the heads of twenty-one of the most important companies in Polish real estate and some had come to Poland from abroad just to cast their votes. Each jury member gave each nominee a score of one to ten. The voting was anonymous and supervised by Bartłomiej Lachowicz, a director of KPMG, and Małgorzata Szostek, a senior manager in the same company. Even though some of the those voting were in the running for an award, no one was allowed to vote for themselves. The event ended with lunch. “Of course, we could not have organised the Eurobuild Awards this year without the Awards of the Decade – which we are holding to honour the successes achieved in the sector over the last ten years. So this year, and this year only, the competition includes awards such as: the Office Developer of the Decade, the Retail Developer of the Decade, the Warehouse Developer of the Decade, the Real Estate Agency of the Decade and the Investor of the Decade,” says Katarzyna Matejuk, the director of Eurobuild Conferences. A total of 35 companies were nominated for five awards. “I would like to add that regardless of who the winners are, all the nominees have accomplished something exceptional. The nominees are only those companies that have had the greatest impact on the market over the last ten years, those that have most impressed us with their achievements,” she adds.

We congratulate and thank all the winners and nominees. Without their hard work the market would be a different and far less interesting place. It is they who have contributed to the success of the real estate sector today, which we all – including us at Eurobuild magazine acting as the voice for the sector – owe a great deal to.
