IKEA to invest EUR 2 bln in Russian malls

RUSSIA IKEA Shopping Centres Russia is set to develop Mega Mytischi, a 215,000 sqm shopping mall in north east suburbs of Moscow. Scheduled to open in early 2018, the project is estimated at EUR 260 mln. The development comes as part of IKEA’s new, 2 EUR bln investment strategy for Russian market.

RUSSIA Russian cinema operator Mori Cinema has signed a lease deal to open a multi-screen, IMAX technology-enhanced cinema in Murmansk Mall, a 45,000 sqm shopping centre that is set to be launched in Murmansk in the first quarter of 2015. The shopping centre’s developer is Dorinda Invest, a company involved in managing the Russian hypermarket chain O’key.

POLAND Although in H1 2014 the Warsaw commercial property market provided the largest retail space supply across Poland, with 1.1 mln sqm of shopping centre stock, the market was also determined by one of the lowest shopping centre density rates, 438 sqm per 1,000 residents. This, coupled with such factors as the highest spending power and a constant inflow of new residents, has created a window of opportunity for new retail projects of different size and format, says JLL in its report.
