WORLD Argentina (Buenos Aires), Brazil (Rio de Janeiro) and Minneapolis (USA) are in competition with Łódź to be the hosts of Expo International 2022.

The deadline for entering the bidding fell on December 15th, when Łódź’s bid was covered in our magazine. The vote to choose the hosts of the exhibition will take place at a general meeting of the International Exhibitions Bureau (BIE) in Paris in November 2017.

Poland was the first to submit its candidacy at a BIE meeting, as early last June in the form of a notification letter from the government. Historic buildings within a 25 ha site are to be turned into revitalisation showpieces. The Expo would effect a ‘revival’ the city centre and visitors could witness a transformation being carried out on a ‘living organism’. The motto of Expo 2022 in Łódź would be ‘A City Reinvented’ – with its residents in mind while maintaining its heritage as well as cultural and historical achievements.
