Retail & leisureIts online ECarrefour.pl store was expanded with the inclusion of a number of non-grocery products to its line and with the introduction of its click & collect service, allowing customers to personally pick up their online purchases from any of the chain’s hypermarkets in Poland. Carrefour also developed the ‘Mój Carrefour’ mobile app, which includes a built-in loyalty programme offering its users discount coupons that can be redeemed in Carrefour stores. Information on physical loyalty cards held by customers can also be transferred to the app. In 2016, 18 Carrefour hypermarkets and 15 supermarkets were modernised and seven of the company’s shopping centres were also renovated. The most significant investment of the year was the extension of the Galeria Morena mall in Gdańsk. The company also introduced its Premium and Market Urban supermarket formats. Market Urban stores are for busy streets in large cities and stock products for those who wish to do a quick shop while Premium supermarkets are mainly in malls for customers looking for top quality products. In 2016, Carrefour also opened seven Smacznie cafes at the entrances to its stores. Carrefour is the first retail chain in Poland to sell national lottery tickets at its checkout tills. Over 1,300 employees and more than 300 managers have been trained to work in Carrefour’s fresh produce departments by the company’s Smak Kariery training centre, which has been in operation for over a year, while 60 managers and directors have been trained as part of the company’s ‘Apetyt na handel’ programme. Carrefour has also placed 20 bee hives on the roofs of its Warsaw storesunder the patronage of the United Nations Environmental Programme/Global Resource Information Database. “We are very pleased with our 2016 results. We managed to implement our strategic goals of our Napoleon campaign in five fields: quality, selection, low prices, health and proximity,” said Guillaume de Colonges, the president and general director of Carrefour Polska. “In 2017 Carrefour will continue to promote an innovative approach to retail trade, service and retail formats. Our greatest challenge will be the development of modern services in response to the real needs, lifestyle and expectations of the modern consumer. This is why Carrefour will continue to develop is e-commerce operations making the chain’s goods and services even more dynamic. Our omnichannel approach as well as the launch of four new innovative technology projects will allow us to provide our customers with an even more pleasant shopping experience and consequently increase our sales,” he added.
