Giant school under construction in Ursus

02 May 2017

POLAND Construction work on a new school in Warsaw’s Ursus district has started by Skanska under a design and build contract.
The work has been commissioned by the District Office of Ursus and the architect Piotr Bujnowski. The investment is worth PLN to 32 mln gross. The school will have places for for 850 pupils with 42 classrooms and six tutorial rooms, a library, a doctor’s surgery and utility, sanitary and administrative rooms, as well as a catering section with a canteen. “The construction of the complex is the biggest educational project in Ursus for years,” says Urszula Kierzkowska, the mayor of Warsaw’s Ursus district. “It will be the first primary school for children from the Skorosze estate. The pupils are to start at the school in the 2018/2019 school year,” she adds. “The biggest attraction of the building will certainly be a two-level school yard – a perfect place to spend free time and make friends,” says Robert Ciołko, the construction manager at Skanska. “The lower section is a big rectangular internal courtyard, where a safe play area is to be built. The second so-called small playground is for younger children, with direct access to two day rooms, which will be built on the first floor. We will also build two gyms and three football pitches. Energy-saving installations such as solar panels to heat the water for the school and a grey water collection system will be installed in the school,” adds Robert Ciołko. The Piotr Bujnowski – Architekt studio and Skanska worked together before in 2015 on the Intergenerational Education Centre project in Warsaw’s Wilanów district.
