Novel Polish solution for roof hazards
Blocked drains are just one of the hazards the pioneering system is designed to monitor
POLAND Warsaw-based company Sense has developed a unique hazard reporting system for roof structures.
S-One is a chain of wireless sensors that measures roof distortions for various types of load – snow, hailstones, water or sand – and alerts the management of the building before these reach hazardous levels.

“This is a method of vertical deflection measurement. Data is transmitted wirelessly and analysed in the cloud, and then the user can check the results through a web application. The system automatically reports hazards by e-mail or text message. The measurement system works high on the roof surface, thanks to which the measurements are not disrupted by the movement of people in the building,” explains Przemysław Gałązka, the founder of Sense.

Hazards to roof structures can arise for a number of prosaic reasons, such as clogged roof drains, over-saturated insulation layers or glacial snow, among others Tragedies can be prevented in various ways, such as by installing special strain gauges and snow measuring mats or by laser-based systems. Sense is applying for an international patent for the system. According to the patenting authorities, this is the world’s first system of its kind.
