Design concept approved for Copernican Revolution Lab

POLAND Heinle, Wischer und Partner Architekci has won a first prize of PLN 50,000 in the competition to find a design concept for The Copernican Revolution Lab (CRL) in Warsaw.

The building is to be constructed on the banks of the river Vistula, next to the Copernicus Science Centre (CSC) and is to be the first centre of its kind in Poland, where experimental research will be conducted on the learning process. The centre will have laboratories and workshops where tests, lessons and workshops are to be organised. It will bring together anthropological, educational, psychological and sociological research with the latest in technology and engineering. The 4,400 sqm three storey building will cost around PLN 55 mln. The city of Warsaw has created a consortium of the Copernicus Science Centre and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (SWPS) to run the project. The design is to be BIM-based and should be completed by April 2018 when the tender for the general contractor is to be announced. The building should be completed b 2020. A total of 35 architectural studios applied to enter the competition, of which ten submitted designs.
