Mint takes root
ConstructionThe base stage should be reached in November. Warbud, the general contractor, has already reached the third underground level (out of four planned).
“The construction of the Mennica Legacy Tower complex is on schedule. We have already completed all the diaphragm walls with a depth of more than 30m. We are at the final stage of closing the ring stiffening the diaphragm walls at a depth of 11.6m. We have completely dispensed with using tiebacks during the construction. The stiffening is exclusively based on two rings at the depth of -4.7m and 11.6m, which will eventually constitute the floors of the underground car park. More than 150 barrettes i.e. underground stilts were built under the complex, their depth is up to 30m. The barrettes are there to balance the water buoyancy in conjunction with the weight of the entire structure and will ultimately function as stilts supporting the entire structure of Mennica Legacy Tower,” explains Piotr Turchoński, the development director at Golub GetHouse.
“We are currently finishing off the excavation work and will soon reach the lowest point 16m underground. Then we will start the construction of the foundation slab, which will be up to 2.4m thick. The slab will be built in September and the base stage is to be completed at the end of November. Almost 20,000 cubic metres of concrete have been poured at the building site since the beginning of the work on the underground section and more than 1,500 tonnes of steel have been used. In order to complete the excavation work we will be removing more than 120,000 cubic metres of soil from the building site. We have come across a few surprises in the course of the construction work. We discovered the unidentified foundations of what was probably the old structure of a treasury – but unfortunately there were no coins to be found... The foundations were large enough to force us to change the technology we were using in order to keep to the construction schedule. A few weeks ago we also found remains of the times of a Second World War Tiger bomb with a weight of over 400 kg. It was immediately secured and removed from the building site by sappers,” adds Piotr Turchoński.
The first building of the complex, which will have a height of 43ms, is to be completed in Q4 2018. The project will also include a 140m tower. Together the buildings will have a total leasable area of over 65,500 sqm. Construction work on the complex started in November 2016.
