Mural for Lem

04 August 2017

POLAND A mural inspired by the work of the Polish science fiction writer Stanisław Lem will be painted on the northern wall of the Galeria Krakowska shopping centre in Kraków. A competition is being held to find a design with the winner to be awarded PLN 15,000.

“It’s been four years since we’ve judged the “Mall Wall Art” competition for the mural on the Galeria Krakowska wall facing the Dworzec Główny railway station,” says Jarosław Szymczak, the director of the centre. The mural Justyna Posiecz-Polkowska, inspired by Jan Szczepkowski’s work, has become an integral part of the city.

The new competition was initiated by Skanska, which is constructing the High5ive office complex on ul. Pawia, in the immediate vicinity of the planned mural. “Our project will mark the end of the revitalisation of the area surrounding the Kraków’s main railway station,” says Ewa Koziana from Skanska Property Poland.

The mural fits in with the UNESCO City of Literature programme run by the Kraków Festival Office and the approaching 100th birthday of Stanisław Lem. Entrants can download a competition application from from www.high5ive.pl and the closing date is August 31st, 2017. The winner of the competition will be chosen in early Septembe with the mural to be painted in September.
