Szkieletor to be completed

Construction
POLAND Work on the Unity Tower development at the Mogilskie roundabout in Kraków is to resume.

Due to the fact that work ceased on the project in 1981, the building never progressed beyond the structural stage and resultantly the 102m tower became popularly known as ‘Szkieletor’. Now Strabag has been appointed as the general contractor to build Unity Centre, which will be a mixed-use complex that includes the tower. The contract comes to PLN 380 mln and EUR 100 mln gross (app. PLN 426 mln) with work to begin within a month and to be completed in June 2019. In July, Trans-Ziem completed the preparatory demolition work and ground work. Five buildings of various sizes are to be developed. The largest section of the centre will be office space with a significant proportion of the space earmarked for restaurants and retail on the ground floor. In total the centre will have a useable area of 50,000 sqm gla. The complex will comprise the Unity Tower office building with 27 storeys and 17,100 sqm gla, the University Office building with nine storeys and 7,200 sqm between Unity Tower and the Kraków University of Economics, the Eastern Office Building with six storeys and 9,900 sqm next to the Mogilskie roundabout, the Radisson Red hotel building on ul. Lubomirskiego with ten storeys, 230 rooms and a useable area of 13,500 sqm including 450 sqm of ground floor retail space available for rent, and finally the Unity Residence building with seven storeys including fully furnished apartments intended for short- and long-term rent.

Under the entire complex there will be a two level car park. The developer is Treimorfa Project, which is a joint venture of Eurozone Equity and GD&K Group of Kraków and the design is by DDJM. “The construction of the Unity Centre complex will put an end to the long history of ‘Szkieletor’. We are pleased that Strabag will have such a significant role in changing the cityscape. This is a special project in terms of the engineering challenges but we are well prepared for it,” says Wojciech Trojanowski, a member of the board at Strabag.
