More money for Garvolin roads

POLAND Centrum Unijnych Projektów Transportowych has signed a contact for additional financing for the construction of S17 expressway with the General Directorate of National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA).

The funds will mostly come from the Infrastructure and Environment Operational Programme. A total of PLN 2.28 bln is to be invested in the project, of which the EU is to fund PLN 1.2 bln. The project is already under construction and with work on the section to be completed in 2019. A 59 km stretch that will extend the S17 expressway from Kurów West to Garwolin is being built under the project as well as a 12 km section of the S12 expressway, which will connect the S17 from Kurów West to a bridge over the river Vistula in Puławy. “We have app. PLN 45 bln earmarked from the Infrastructure and Environment Operational Programme for investments in the most important roads in the country, which are mostly expressways. More or less half of the funds have already been allocated between 36 projects,” reports Witold Słowik, the deputy minister of development. The EU’s Infrastructure and Environment Operational Programme will eventually fund the construction of around 2,000 km of road in Poland.
