POLAND The EU Transport Projects Centre has agreed to provide a subsidy to the General Directorate of National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) concerning a subsidy for the construction of S17 expressway between Garwolin and Kurów.

The funds for the PLN 2.28 bln project will mostly come out of the Infrastructure and Environment Programme, which will contribute almost PLN 1.2 bln.

“The project is already in progress and the construction of the section should finish in 2019. Today’s contract confirms that EU funds have been secured,” announced Jerzy Kwieciński, the deputy minister of development. “The S17 expressway will connect the south of Europe with Polish ports,” added Marek Chodkiewicz, the deputy minister of infrastructure and construction.

The most important part of the project will be the construction of the S17 expressway between Garwolin and the Kurów West interchange, which will have a length of almost 59 km, along with a 12 km stretch of the S12 expressway connecting the interchange with a bridge over the river Vistula in Puławy.

“We have received app. PLN 45 bln from the Infrastructure and Environment Programme for investment in the most important roads in the country, mostly expressways. More or less half of the funds have already been allocated. The funds have been earmarked for 36 projects,” explained Witold Słowik, the deputy minister of development. The construction of app. 2,000 km of motorways, expressways and national roads is to be financed from funds provided by the Infrastructure and Environment Programme.
