Rafał Ostrowski has over 17 years’ experience as a journalist. Before joining ‘Eurobuild CEE’ five years ago, he wrote for Wydawnictwo Murator and Shopping Centre Magazine, as well as for retailnet.pl. He has also written for many newspapers and magazines as a freelancer and prepared photo-reportages. Rafał graduated from the University of Warsaw in philosophy. He also completed postgraduate studies in text editing. For ‘Eurobuild CEE’ he covers most real estate sectors, including logistics, construction, office, residential and retail. He is also in charge of the film direction for Eurobuild TV.

POLAND In 2017, the supply of new retail space in Poland totalled 426,000 sqm gla, down by 9 pct on last year and down by 25 pct on the annual average for the previous five years, according to Cresa Poland.

The space includes 381,000 sqm gla completed in nineteen new projects and 45,000 sqm in project extensions (11 pct of last year’s total supply). The retail developments completed in 2017 include nine shopping centres (279,000 sq m), seven standalone retail warehouses (81,000 sqm) and three small-scale retail parks (21,000 sqm).

Last year Galeria Północna opened in Warsaw, being the first shopping centre of such a large scale to be delivered to the capital in the last ten years. Other openings included Wroclavia in Wrocław, Serenada in Krakow and Lublin’s SKENDE Shopping centre anchored by IKEA. The shopping centres that were extended last year include Galaxy in Szczecin and Arkadia in Warsaw.

At the end of 2017, Poland’s total retail stock stood at 14.3 mln sqm available in 771 properties, including 424 shopping centres with 10.5 mln sqm of leasable space, 69 retail parks with more than 1 mln sqm, and 14 outlet centres and 264 standalone warehouses providing 243,000 sqm and over 2.5 mln sqm of leasable space, respectively.
