Prologis tanks up with sunlight
The solar cells will power with a peak capacity of 720W in full sunlight

HUNGARY Prologis Park Budapest-Harbor is to be the world’s first logistics park with solar cells installed in the pavements.

Prologis has partnered for this pilot project with Platio, a Hungarian start-up and the inventor of the technology. The solar cells are to cover 4.7 sqm of paving near an electric car charging station, which they will power with a peak capacity of 720W in full sunlight. When the station is empty, the electricity will supply a nearby office building.

“We already use numerous green technologies in our logistics buildings and keeping an eye on further innovation we take special care to trial potential future technologies like this renewable energy source from Platio,” said László Kemenes, the senior vice president and country manager at Prologis Hungary.

“It is important for us to find key partners who support innovative technologies and can give us the opportunity to try out new applications. With the help of Prologis, we have managed to install our first system for electric vehicle charging stations, which is a significant milestone for us and part of our mission to contribute to e-mobility,” said Miklós Illyés one of the co-founders of Platio.

Prologis Park Budapest-Harbor is located on the southern border of Budapest in District 22, on the western side of the river Danube. The park, which comprises 10 buildings totalling 132,000 sqm with a further 27,000 sqm available for future development, has excellent access to the N6 national road and M0 and M6 motorways.
