State-owned logistics giant born?
The Polish Post and Railways are to select properties ideal for joint logistics services
POLAND Poczta Polska (the Polish Post) and the Polish State Railways (PKP) are to offer joint forwarding and logistics services, after the companies signed a letter of intent for cooperation in this area.

This envisages the appointment of a team to identify the properties suitable for this kind of business and to determine the principles of cooperation and its business model.

“The letter of intent is another very important step towards cooperation, due to which railway land that has great potential will finally be developed,” announces Krzysztof Mamiński, the president of the board of PKP S.A.

“The intention behind this partnership between the Polish Post and the Polish State Railways is to utilise the properties that belong to the two companies. Some of PKP’s properties could be used for the development of sorting plants and other logistics centres of the Polish Post,” adds Przemysław Sypniewski, the president of the board at Poczta Polska.

“PKP S.A. owns many sites that could be ideal for logistics centres and various smaller kinds of logistics infrastructure. Eighty such properties have been identified so far, mostly located around railway stations and lines accessible by road. Some of these locations could be included in the partnership with the Polish Post, which is a natural partner for our activities aimed at the development of Polish forwarding and logistics,” comments Mirosław Antonowicz, a member of the board at PKP S.A.

Over the next few months the companies are to agree on the list of properties where joint projects could be carried out the Polish Post has so far provided PKP with a list of 48 properties that could be used for such purposes.
