POLAND Almost PLN 1 bln is to be invested in a number of projects to revitalise eight quarters in the centre of Łódź.

“We are starting a huge renovation of the city centre, which will change Łódź, but will also cause some disruption over the course of the work,” claims Hanna Zdanowska, the mayor of Łódź. “The work will start first on ul. Wschodnia, ul. Jaracza, ul. Traugutta and ul. Gdańska as well as on the construction of a new connecting road between ul. Tuwima and ul. Moniuszki,” she added. The street renovations to start this year will cost PLN 48 mln. “We will try to keep public transport running along streets where the renovations have been completed and Wherever possible the work is to be completed while keeping one side of the road open. We are considering introducing two-way traffic on one-way streets parallel to those being renovated such as ul. Rewolucji 1905,” said Maciej Sobieraj, the deputy director of the Road and Transport Authority. The revitalization will result in the modernisation of a number of tenement houses, the resurfacing of the streets, the construction of new pavements, new plantings and it is intended to improve the beauty of the city centre as well as to facilitate business and industry.
