Tender announced for Rynek Kobro
POLAND The authorities of Łódź have announced a tender to find a contractor to build the Rynek Kobro square with construction sometime next year.

Rynek Kobro will be built between the railway station and the EC1 complex. Former industrial buildings will face onto one side of the square while the other will be made up of new constructions. The brick-paved square will be lit with LEDs and will form a venue for hosting large outdoor events with technical facilities placed under the square. On the northern side a stairway is to lead to ul. Kieślowskiego and the railway station. “Trees and shrubs will be planted along the stairs and water will cascade down them in some places,” says Aleksandra Hac of Łódź City Hall. “As well as the square we are going to rebuild ul. Hasa which will become a green passageway with fountains and seasonal gardens. It will be a space for pedestrians and cyclists, where cars will be admitted only under exceptional circumstances. Under the street there will be a car park for 300 vehicles and an underground street. In February the city will announce a tender to select the contractor for the design and build project. The winner will be chosen around the beginning of July this year. The project is to be developed over a number of stages and will carried out in coordination with a number of neighbouring projects. The underground section will be opened in December 2019 and the whole project completed in 2022. The project will cost an estimated PLN 90 mln. The original conceptual design for Rynek Kobro is by Sud Architekci and BZB Projekt. The square is named after Katarzyna Kobro a Polish sculptor of Russian origin, who lived in Łódź for many years before her death.
