A Pole chosen by UAE developer

Eurobuild CEE 11 January 2018

POLAND/UNITED ARAB EMIRATES A city installation, which presents a team of 14 dandelions, has been placed on a promenade near the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. It is a contrasting and strongly European element of the futuristic city landscape.

The project was implemented by a Polish sculptor Mirek Struzik. The dandelion project was made at the request of an investor from the United Arab Emirates, the Emaar development company. The company also deals with the arrangement of public space. The sculpture is made of electro polished stainless steel and illuminated with LED RGB lamps. The maximum height of individual elements is 7.2 meters. The dandelion theme was repeated several times in the portfolio of Mirek Struzik – similar installations could already be seen in Błonie near Wroclaw and during the Light Festival 2015 in Istanbul, where it has been a permanent exhibition. “The installation reference at such a famous place as Dubai Fountain and Dubai Opera provides a great potential for the development of cooperation with Polish designers in other locations in Dubai, throughout the Emirates, as well as in neighbouring countries,” comments Moneer Faour, head of the Foreign Trade Office of the Polish Investment and Trade Agency in Dubai. “Because of my experience in designing artistic installations in public space, I was invited by the Visto Images gallery from New York to present my concept of dandelions to the investor Emaar. To our satisfaction, the project was accepted, so I immediately embarked on the work,” says Mirek Struzik. The sculpture consisting of 14 dandelions was installed in Dubai for an indefinite period.
