A visualisation of the museum complex to be built in the Warsaw Citadel
POLAND A bid by a consortium of IDS-Bud and Mar-Bud Budownictwo has been judged the best in the tender for the construction of the Polish Army Museum (MWP) in the historic Warsaw Citadel complex.
The same consortium has also been chosen to build the Museum of Polish History (MHP). The total construction costs for both projects will come to around PLN 821 mln, since the consortium’s proposal was to build the Museum of Polish History for PLN 555.5 mln and the Polish Army Museum for almost PLN 256 mln. The construction of the Polish Army Museum in the Citadel is to be financed with a Ministry of Defence subsidy. The stage of the project planned for 2018–2021 will mostly involve: the construction of a building to house space for permanent and temporary exhibitions of the Polish Army Museum together with a visitor service complex, a two-level underground car park underneath an elegant square, technical and transport infrastructure, as well as landscaping work.

The design of the Polish Army Museum as well as the Museum of Polish History is the work of Warsaw-based architectural studio WXCA. The Museum of Polish History will have a total area of app. 44,000 sqm, of which 8,000 sqm will be taken up by warehouses and conservation workshops. The Ministry of Culture and National Heritage has disclosed that the budget for the Museum of the History of Poland has been increased by PLN 98 mln – up to PLN 757.2 mln, while the deadline for the implementation of the project has been moved back to February 2021. The Museum Citadel complex already includes the Museum of the 10th Pavilion and the Katyń Museum. It will also feature more than 30 ha of parkland and a square in the central section of the complex.
