MBB designs fourth stage of Garitage Park

BULGARIA New York based studio Murphy Burnham & Buttrick Architects (MBB) has unveiled the design of the fourth and the final stage of the Garitage Park mixed-use project, which is to be developed by Garitage Investment Management in Sofia.

The studio won the international competition to design the stage in 2017. The project will include two 25,000 sqm towers and a high-rise commercial tower with retail, restaurants and other amenities on multiple levels as well as an entry plaza. The complex is to built on a 2.4 ha landscaped sit and includes 60,000 sqm of underground parking. The buildings will surround central gathering spaces with lawns, a skating rink and fountains.

“We recognised that as architects, we tend to design towers from above, as objects, But in reality, they are experienced by most people at ground level as environments – part of the visual backdrop of the city. It is the space between buildings, as much as the buildings themselves, that gives life to a community,” claims MBB.

The previous stages, which are currently under construction, include 35,000 sqm of midrise office development, 22,000 sqm of midrise residential apartment buildings and townhouses, as well as a 3,000 sqm sports complex and a 20,000 sqm international school.

The first stage as well as the masterplan for the entire complex is the work of UK-based Stephen George International. The second and third stages have been designed by Sofia-based Planning Architectural Studio, with MBB being responsible for the design of the elementary and middle school built in the third stage. For fourth stage, MBB will be working together with Planning Architectural Studio while RKLA Studio will be responsible for the landscape design.
