Varso already ‘Outstanding’

POLAND The tallest of the three Varso Place office buildings currently under development in the centre of Warsaw has been awarded BREEAM Interim certificate with a rating of ‘Outstanding’.

What will be the tallest building in Poland has received a score of 87.5 pct. According to the developer it is also now the world’s tallest office building under construction to be certified with the highest grade possible under the BREEAM Interim certification.

Ewelina Grodzicka, user experience specialist at HB Reavis Poland, which is developing the building, describes the award for Varso as “an enormous success for the team involved in the development".

"The project will not be completed for another two years or so, but we are already confident that this will be a place that meets the highest standards of sustainable development,” she adds.

Among the features of the building that scored highly are its easy access to transportation including its direct connection with the Warsaw Central Station, as well as its facilities for cyclists, including racks for a few hundred bicycles, changing rooms and showers, and also it planned electric vehicle charging stations. Other features include its ample access to natural light supplemented with artificial lighting of a natural hue, both internal and external soundproofing, individual office temperature and air conditioning controls.

From the very beginning, the construction work on Varso Tower has been marked by an integrated approach, with an acute awareness of the environment and a commitment to meeting the BREEAM requirements from the whole project team. The result is ‘Outstanding’, the highest rating possible, which is extremely difficult to achieve in Poland,” says Marcin Cierpisz, a BREEAM assessor at Sweco Consulting, who advised HB Reavis on the BREEAM certification. Varso Tower is also the first office building in Poland to receive WELL Core & Shell pre-certification, awarded by the International WELL Building Institute. The 230m tower (310m including the spire) has been designed by Foster + Partners.
