POLAND Carrefour is the first chain in Poland to use the Global Data Synchronisation Network, which allows for information about products to be shared between trading partners through a n electronic data exchange based on GS1 standards.

Carrefour has already implemented the system in France, Brazil and Taiwan under its digital transformation strategy. Five Polish suppliers are already operating under the new system and 18 more companies are soon to join. GDSN allows all those involved in a supply chain – from producers and wholesalers, to warehouses, transport and logistics providers, and stores (both online and bricks and mortar), to exchange information in real time. The system eliminates the need for traditional product sheets reducing errors and shortages on shelves through better inventory management. “GDSN is a digital revolution for the entire retail industry that not only helps people work more closely together on a daily basis across the entire supply chain but also brings measurable financial benefits. This is a milestone in the digitization of data exchange on the Polish market,” claims Katarzyna Orlińska, the chief digital officer at Carrefour Polska. “Today, when the key challenge in retail is omnichannel sales that requires the continuous monitoring of both offline and online channels, having reliable product data is crucial,” says Elżbieta Hałas, the CEO of GS1 Poland. Carrefour is the first chain in Poland to implement GDSN. The first suppliers that have signed up to the system ar Fritolay (Pepsico), Colgate/ Palmolive, VitaProdukt, Zakłady Tłuszczowe Kruszwica and Atlanta.
