Possible cathode factory for Nysa

Eurobuild CEE 14 June 2018
POLAND Umicore of Belgium is considering the opening of a factory in Nysa, the Ministry of Enterprise and Technology has announced.

The plant will produce battery components for electric vehicles, with two other similar plants to be built in China and Korea. This is to be the first such factory in Europe, which is to be built as part of a EUR 660 mln investment programme announced by the company earlier this year. About 400 new jobs will be created with deliveries will start at the end of 2020. Further details of the plans have yet to be announced. “Umicore works exclusively in the field of green energy, so it combines modern technology with environmental sustainability,” says Jadwiga Emilewicz, the minister of enterprise and technology. Umicore is the leading producer of cathodes. Umicore employs around 10,000 people all over the world and its annual turnover is app. EUR 11.1 bln. Umicore has 59 production plants in the world, including 24 in Europe.
