Work to start again on national stadium
The signing of the construction contract should take place before autumn
LITHUANIA Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis and Remigijus Šimašius the mayor of Vilnius have agreed on financing for the national stadium in Vilnius and as a result work on the project can proceed.

Originally a stadium was planned to open for 2018, the 100th anniversary of Lithuania's independence, but the original project stalled leaving the remnants of an unfinished building on the 22 ha silte in the city’s Šeškinė district next to the Akropolis shopping centre. The stadium is to be built by a consortium of companies and negotiations are now underway as a result of the the provision of EU funding and a schedule has been drawn up by the city of Vilnius. Negotiations should be completed by the end of July and the signing of the construction contract should take place before autumn. The stadium is to be built as a public-private partnership and the cost has been capped at EUR 79.9 mln. The price for the construction of the football stadium itself has been estimated at EUR 33.8 mln ny the city of Vilnius. The consortium is to finish the design work in one year and the construction work is to take two years. On completion, the consortium will manage the complex for 22 years.
