Miękinia now bypassed

Eurobuild CEE 15 October 2018
POLAND A consortium of Mota-Engil Central Europe with Himmel and Papesch Opole has completed the construction of the Miękinia Bypass.

The road links a bridge over the river Odra in Brzeg Dolny with national road no. 94 in Błonie and provincial road no. 340. The work took 33 months to complete. The new road bypasses the village of Miękinia to the East. “The project involved the construction of a bridge using the lateral slide method which has the advantage of minimising the disruption period for rail traffic, which is extremely important when the line is very busy as was the case. A tunnel was built under the E30 railway line,” says Pedro Januario, a board member at Mota-Engil Central Europe. The tunnels and viaducts were constructed off site before being transported and installed in the places where they were to be used. The tunnel under railway line no. 275 from Muchobór-Gubinek could have involved significant disruption with rail traffic being diverted along considerable detours, but by using transverse sliding rail traffic could continue to use the line.
