Polish online retailers looking to go global

Eurobuild CEE 05 November 2018
POLAND Around 24 pct of Polish online retailers are currently considering foreign expansion claims the ‘The Challenges of E-commerce’ report prepared by the Kronenberg Foundation at Citi Handlowy.

Around 65 pct of Polish companies in this sector are currently active in foreign markets (58 pct in Western and Central Europe, 26 pct in Eastern Europe, 9 pct in Asia and 6 pct in the USA). Around 20 pct of these retailers also set up new sales outlets. The biggest risks to these businesses are changing laws and increasing competition from large international chains. The latest trends on the ecommerce market include same day deliveries, as well as the use of virtual reality and artificial intelligence. “Polish stores have huge ambitions to go beyond Poland with their products. Two thirds of Polish online retailers are present in Western and Central Europe, and a further 8 pct plan to expand their operations outside Poland. However, we see that Polish stores currently generate only 6 pct of their sales revenues abroad,” claims Maciej Żurawek, the director of product development and sales support at City Handlowy.
