Designers chosen for abattoir
The design work will take two years
POLAND Vastint Poland has chosen Przemysław Borkowicz with Poznan's two studios: Jeju and Ugo to design its Stara Rzeźnia [the Old Slaughterhouse] project in Poznań.

The two studios have two years to complete their design for the quarter surrounded by ul. Garbary, ul. Grochowe Łąki and ul. Północna, where meat processing plants operated until the 1990s. A number of historic buildings from the 19th and 20th centuries are to be conserved including the main hall, the boiler room, the engine room, the water tower, which are to become the central part of the centre after its redevelopment. A public square with stores and art galleries is to be developed while the rest of the project is to include office, residential and service space. On completion the project should have a useable area of around 70,000 sqm. “We hope that working with the team we have selected will result in a design with a well thought out and functional layout and a space that becomes part of the urban structure and fits into the surrounding area,” says Rafał Przybył, the regional director of Vastint Poland. Vastint Poland is part of the Inter Ikea group and Stara Rzeźnia is the company’s third project in the city.
