POLAND After a year of operations the GaleriaPółnocna mall, developed by GTC has been awarded LEED with a rating of ‘Gold’.
The centre includes such environmentally sustainable features as a roof garden, which reduced the urban heat island effect and also helps absorb CO2 emissions. Measures have also been taken to reduce water consumption and greywater is used for irrigation purposes.
“From the planning phase of this project, we wanted to create a multifunctional and environmentally friendly place. Currently Galeria Północna is visited monthly by hundreds of thousands of people, especially families with children and the young. LEED certification with a rating of ‘Gold’ is proof that the mall provides added value for the local community and this is what truly matters to us. We are glad to have provided an example of how a big commercial project can be environmentally sustainable and keep in its heart the interests of both people and the natural environment,” commented Agnieszka Nowak, the managing director of Galeria Północna at GTC. The mall has a gla of 64,000 sqm as well as an eleven-screen multiplex.
