Students design their own rooms

Architecture and urban planning
POLAND Golub GetHouse has presented the entries in its competition to find an interior design for the Livinn Kraków student residence on ul. Romanowicza in Kraków.

The project is part of the renovation and conversion of the buildings of the former Telpod factory and the ‘Dormitorium – student residential unit’ competition, which is now entering its second stage, was open to students of interior design from the Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski Kraków University. The first stage was for a residential unit adapted to the needs of the handicapped, which was won by Tomasz Jałocha from Poland, Yevheniia Krepsheva from Ukraine and Maria Barranco Fernandez from Spain. This time in the second stage, the students have been asked to design a dream room to accommodate from one to four people. The only restriction that has been placed on the design is size. The winners are to be announced in January 2019. The project is being developed by Golub GetHouse in partnership with the US-based CA Ventures International. Livinn Kraków will have 290 residential units with from one to four beds and 713 beds in total. Each unit, all of which are to be fully furnished, will come with a living room, a bedroom, a kitchen and a bathroom as well as study space and internet access. The rooms will have a ceiling height of 3.9m and the industrial character of the building is to be retained. The project also includes a gym, bike storage, laundry facilities, an internal garden and a relaxation zone with trees. The architectural design is by IMB Asymetria, and the general contractor is Unibep. The completion of the construction work is planned for summer 2019 and the centre is to be ready for the first students at the start of the 2019/2020 academic year.
