Poznań to build Uprising museum

POLAND The city of Poznań has announced an architectural competition to find a concept for the Museum of the 1918-1919 Wielkopolska Uprising, which is also to include the design of a park.

The project has investment costs of around PLN 150 mln and work should start in 2021. “Only recently, were we talking about a competition for the architectural for a Musical Theatre and today we are announcing a competition for the design of a museum. This proves that Poznań supports culture and cares for its heritage,” claims Jędrzej Solarski, a deputy mayor of Poznań. The new Museum of the 1918-1919 Wielkopolska Uprising will be located on a 1 ha plot on Wzgórze Św. Wojciecha. The ​​10,000 sqm building will include a permanent exhibition that will take up around a third of the space as well as teaching rooms, a conference room, storage, restoration studios, offices, a library, a small shop and a café. Those entrants that meet the entry conditions will be invited in the first stage of the competition to present their vision for the museum building, after which a shortlist will be drawn up of those going through to the second stage. The winner is to receive PLN 70,000 in prize money, with PLN 35,000 for second place and PLN 25,000 for third. The government has also declared that it will help fund the project.
