Lidl's new store concept for Kaunas

LITHUANIA Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) has granted Lidl Lietuva a loan of EUR 50 mln loan to be paid back within ten years to finance the chain’s expansion programme in the country over the 2017-2019 period.

Lidl entered the Lithuanian market in June 2016 and by the end of 2017, it had a chain of Lidl 35 stores and one warehouse with a market share of 6.5 pct. Lidl is planning to continue its expansion in Lithuania even beyond 2017.

All the new stores are to be constructed according to Lidl’s energy efficiency policies, and will include automated BMS as heat recovery systems.

The Lidl shops in Lithuania, as well as the logisitics centre in Kaunas, have been certified under the EDGE system for environmentally efficient buildings, which was developed by the IFC, a member of the World Bank Group.

“The expansion follows Lidl’s growth strategy in the Baltic countries,” says Henrik Normann the CEO of NIB.
