Libeskind designs for Łódź
POLAND The city of Łódź has set up the InLodz21 cultural institution which is to develop the Special Retail Zone (Specjalna Strefa Detalu) project.
The first building to be constructed in the project is to be an avant-garde tenement house designed by Daniel Libeskind at the corner of ul. Wschodnia and ul. Jaracza. Hanna Zdanowska, the mayor of the city, claims that the project is not to be one iconic building but will comprise a number of them throughout the city. The InLodz21 cultural institution is to be run by the city together with the Atlas Sztuki foundation, the Academy of Fine Arts and the University of Łódź.
