Tunnel drilling on Zakopianka
It will be the longest road tunnel in Poland
POLAND Work on the construction of the tunnel of the future ‘Zakopianka’ i.e. the S7 Lubień – Rabka Zdrój route has been resumed. The tunnelling work will be executed around the clock, including Saturdays and Sundays, while large diameter piles at the southern portal of the tunnel will be performed for twelve hours a day.
The large diameter piles constitute the protection of landslides located at the southern inlet to the tunnel. The drilling of the fourth hole will start after securing the landslide. Work is also underway on the reinforcement of the tunnel casing. More than 2,000 metres of the tunnel near Mały Luboń and 1,800 metres of tunnel casing have been drilled. The two-chamber tunnel is being built by an Italian consortium of Astaldi. The project should be ready at the end of 2020 and early 2021. It will be the longest road tunnel in Poland. Astaldi, which is building the tunnel, found itself in financial trouble. Despite its difficulties, the company insists that it will finish the contract on Zakopianka on time. At present, the money is paid to subcontractors directly by the Kraków branch of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways instead of Astaldi.
