Bucharest Centenary Project unveiled
Over 10,000 new homes should be built as part of the Bucharest Centenary Project
ROMANIA The city of Bucharest is planning the redevelopment of the former Antiaeriană military base within sector 5 of the city. The 95.6 ha site is entirely owned by the sector 5 city authorites and a masterplan has been drawn up for the development of 1.5 mln sqm of space.

The Bucharest Centenary Project is to include 10,000 new homes, more than 70,000 sqm of retail and service space and 300,000 sqm of offices with four schools and six kindergartens. Around 48 ha has been set aside for green areas and the development is also to include 30,000 sqm of space for health facilities.

In the first stage of the project, the main streets, public transport network and the green areas are to be developed. The project has been divided into six zones :

1. Bucharest Centenary Boulevard will include more than 6,800 apartments, a variety of mixed-use facilities and also more than 100,000 sqm of green areas.

2. The Business District will be to the north of the site, with more than 300,000 sqm developed area for offices and services.

3. The Centenary Esplanade will be a 37,000 sqm pedestrian area and around 176,000 sqm is to be developed in the zone for health centres and educational facilities.

4. The Multipurpose Sport Hall Zone will have an area of 130,000 sqm and will include a sports hall with seating for 5,500 people as well as modern training facilities.

5. The fifth area (6.2 ha) is to be used for social housing and include a 2.6 ha public garden.
6. The sixth area is to be a 15.8 ha residential area that includes collective housing.

The city authorities intend to develop the area as part of a PPP project.
