Poles still not thrilled by trade ban

Eurobuild CEE 11 April 2019
POLAND Support for the current ban on retail trade for three Sundays every month and the total ban that is to come into effect in 2020 is dwindling according to the latest survey conducted by Maison & Partners on behalf of the Association of Entrepreneurs and Employers.
According to the results, support for the ban as it stood in 2018 with trading allowed on two Sundays each month has increased to 45 pct from 43 pct in November last year. “We can clearly see that those people who have noticed how burdensome the regulations that are currently in force are and realise how annoying a total ban on trade from 2020 would be have now started looking upon last year’s system of two trading Sundays per month more favourably. This is no surprise when we consider the most restrictive regulations that are to come into effect next year since they make the less onerous restrictions look much more rational,” claims Cezary Kaźmierczak, the president of the Association of Entrepreneurs and Employers. Support the system as it stands in 2019 is 37 pct, around 4 pp. less than in the previous survey. Support has also dropped for the total ban that will come into effect from next year from 35 pct to 32 pct. Opposition to any kind of trade ban has also decreased slightly while the percentage of those opposed to the current regulations and those proposed for next year remains the same with around half of all Poles opposed, while support has also dropped from 31 pct to 26 pct.

“We can still see that the proportion of those critical of the regulations is higher in small towns and among those working in the retail trade, which we also noted when we conducted the very first survey. In this respect nothing has changed,” says Dominika Maison. A total of 1,086 people were surveyed using computer assisted web interviews).
