Silesia hotel meets wrecking ball

POLAND Tree Capital has started the demolition of the Silesia hotel on ul. Ks. Piotra Skargi in Katowice on behalf of real estate developer Vastint Poland.

The completion of the work is planned for September. Vastint plans to use the site to develop the Nova Silesia mixed-use project, which will include two 13-storey office buildings with a total of 30,000 sqm as well as a 5,000 sqm hotel with 144 rooms. The complex has been designed by APA Wojciechowski and the developer intends to start the construction work this year. “The building is located in the very centre of the city which will require us to take additional measures to minimise any disturbance due to the demolition work and the disposal of the large amount of debris. Moreover, the hotel was built at the beginning of 1970s and some of the materials used in its construction are presently considered to be harmful. We have to apply special precautions and working procedures to remove such materials. We also wish to recover as many of the raw materials as possible to recycle them. We will begin with the dismantling of the Silesia Hotel neon sign, which Vastint Poland wants to hand over to the city,” says Anna Lewicka, a site manager from Tree Capital.
