In December last year, six studios were selected to go through to the final. “The winning design was judged to be the best because of its originality and because of the way it blends with its surroundings and fits the local terrain,” said Bolesław Stelmach, the director of the National Institute of Architecture and Urban Planning. The second prize was awarded to JEMS Architekci studio and the third prize to a design by the ARPA and SKI studios. Three honourable mentions were also awarded The main stage of the new theatre will be able to seat 1,200 people. “This will be the first theatre built in the city since the second world war and we expect the theatre’s first musical premiere to be held in 2023,” says Przemysław Kieliszewski, the director of the Musical Theatre in Poznań. The first prize is PLN 80,000 and an invitation to start negotiating with the city.
