Battery plant to be built in Konin

POLAND “UK company Johnson Matthey is to set up a production plant for battery components for electric vehicles in Konin in an estimated investment of almost PLN 1 bln,” reported Jadwiga Emilewicz, the minister of enterprise and technology during the second Polish-British Business and Investment Forum in Warsaw.

The factory is to be built on the site of the Impexmetal electrolysis plant Impexmetal’s industrial area which was previously occupied by an electrolysis building. Construction work is to begin this year and production should begin on the 43 ha site from the beginning of 2022. Last year the same company is also to build a catalytic converter factory in Gliwice with work top begin soon. The project will entail the construction of a building with a quality control centre as well as production and storage facilities. The company, which is one of the largest battery suppliers in Europe, already has a lithium-ion battery production plant in Gliwice.
