Ibis Styles Sarajevo opens
The decoration of the Ibis Styles in Sarajevo draws on the culture and history of the city
BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA Ibis Styles has opened a hotel in Sarajevo with 192 guestrooms.

The hotel was developed through adding a high rise extension to an existing building. The interiors by MIXD are themed on the Winter Olympics of 1984 and also reflect the city’s history including its mix of religions and the civil war of the 1990s. This was done through the choice of the materials and the colour scheme, occasionally leaving bare installations and course concrete walls in the corridors and the lobby.

The room numbers are displayed on small hand-woven kelim rugs. In the basement a spa zone with swimming pools and saunas has been created. The hotel restaurant interior is dominated by bright, cold colours with a mural by Karol Banach, which represents the winter Olympics. On the 15th floor, the Igman Bar looks out over the city and the nearby Igman mountain, but serves no alcohol. The reception area includes swings made of colourful snowboards games (despite snowboarding having been made a Olympic sport in 1998) and a picture of Vućko – the 1984 Olympic mascot – hangs above the fireplace.
