POLAND Budimex has begun the refurbishment of an amphitheatre in Koszalin. The PLN 36.9 mln project is to take two years.

The structure will have a new capacity of 4,300 seats, a bigger and improved stage, as well as new lighting and audio systems. Based on the current structure, a new backstage is to be built with workshop and warehouse space, a small theatre and concert room, exposition space and a cloakroom. The project also includes site development with new lighting, fencing and monitoring. A new roof for the stage is to be built, while the current roof over the audience is also to be refurbished.

The city finally managed to secure a contractor after four unsuccessful tenders and an increase in the budget for the project by the city council of PLN 7 mln. In the fifth tender Budimex was the only bidder.

The project is being developed by Koszalin together with its twin town Neubrandenburg, which is also revitalising an adjacent park. The partnership to refurbish the amphitheatre was signed three years ago. The project is also being supported by the European Regional Development Fund. The refurbished amphitheatre should be ready in August 2021.
