PLN 400 investment in Łódź Kaliska

Eurobuild CEE 26 August 2019

POLAND Polish State Railways (PKP PKL) have contracted Poznań-based construction company Torpol for a PLN 406.8 mln redevelopment of the Łódź Kaliska station.

Five new platforms, new footbridges and passages under the tracks are planned. The company is to exchange the lighting, passenger shelters and benches, as well as the signage and information system. The redevelopment will also facilitate the access to the station and the bus stops with new lifts and guidance paths for people with disabilities. The new connections will allow the opening of a closed railway viaduct and eliminate the ‘bottleneck’ effect caused by a single-track connection in the south-east including to the Łódź Chojny station and further towards the Świętokrzyskie and Podkarpackie provinces. Now the number of tracks is to increase to three. The traffic control is to be computerised and 15 km of tracks and 47 switches to be modernised and ready for the speed of 100 km per hour (currently it is 60 km per hour). The investment is to improve connections between the Łódź Kaliska station and Kutno, Łowicz, Sieradz, Kalisz, Tomaszów Mazowiecki, Opoczno, Skarżysko and Dębica. The construction work is to start in 2020 and it will last two years.
