Warsaw University Library more fit for purpose
The PLN 26.2 mln fittness centre covers an area of 6,000 sqm

POLAND A multifunctional sports centre has opened in the basement of the Warsaw University Library (BUW).

Investment costs for the project come to around PLN 26.2 mln. It comprises 6,000 sqm of training space, with two fitness rooms, a gym, a crossfit room, an ergometer , three multi-purpose rooms, locker rooms, sanitary rooms, changing rooms, common areas and a multimedia sports and entertainment room. It will be available to students and employees of the University of Warsaw, and will be a venue for competitions, tournaments, sports shows and events as well as other activities, such as ballroom dancing, fencing, table tennis and yoga. A total of 4,000 people will be able to use it every week.

The construction of the complex started in September 2016, according to a design by the Zbigniew Badowski, Marek Budzyński – Architekci studio, which also designed the building of the University Library. PRK7 Nieruchomości was responsible for the construction and installation work.

The conversion of the basement for sports purposes is the first project to be completed under the University of Warsaw 2016–2025 programme, which involves the construction of new buildings and the extension and reconstruction of existing facilities. The University of Warsaw is to carry out a total of 18 projects in the ten years of the almost PLN 1 bln programme.
