Motorbiking under a new roof
The new stadium in Lublin will be able to seat 15,000 spectators

POLAND A roofed speedway stadium for more than 15,000 spectators is to be built in Lublin. Next to the new stadium the city authorities are also planning to build a sports and recreation complex with football pitches.

The new stadium is intended for such motorsports as speedway, supercross and karting. It will be suitable for international sports events, as well as concerts, fairs and shows. A car park, toilets, first aid rooms and a catering section are also to be provided.

The concept for the accompanying sports and recreation complex has already been prepared. Two natural grass football pitches and two artificial pitches will be created within the complex in two stages. It will also feature walking paths, public squares, a skate park, an outdoor gym and playgrounds as well as green areas and parking.

Lublin city council initially considered the reconstruction of the current speedway stadium on Al. Zygmuntowskie, which would involve the need to temporarily adapt another stadium, Arena Lublin, for holding speedway meetings. However, the estimated cost of adapting the Arena and later restoring it to its previous state would be around PLN 20 mln. This option would also involve the need to provide a replacement home for the Motor Lublin football club. Finally, the decision was taken to build a speedway stadium in a new location – in the area around ul. Krochmalna and ul. Ciepła.

“This means that the matches of the Speed Car Motor Lublin team will continue to be held at the stadium on Al. Zygmuntowskie until the construction of the new stadium is finished,” the mayor of Lublin Krzysztof Żuk, has announced.

The site of the new stadium is to covered by a local spatial zoning plan – parks, greenery and recreation areas can be developed on it, so the construction of the stadium requires changing the provisions of the plan. A resolution to amend the plan adopted by the city council in January 2019. The design phase is in progress and the document will be submitted to the city’s planning and architectural commission and other institutions in Q1. After it is approved, it will be made available to the public.
