Piaseczno aiming to get smarter

Emitel has installed 130 sensors for calculating the parking space occupancy in certain areas, while ten ultrasonic sensors for measuring how full litter bins are and six alarm flood sensors to monitor the water level in rivers and drainage ditches are also now in place. A series of sensors for monitoring the natural environment (the temperature, noise levels and humidity) have also been installed.

“Due to our cooperation with Emitel, Piaseczno is the latest place in Poland to employ information and communication technology to increase the interactivity and efficiency of the urban infrastructure. With this new technology and the Internet of Things, our borough can become more friendly for its inhabitants, better organised and use resources more efficiently,” explains Daniel Putkiewicz, the mayor of Piaseczno town and district.

Emitel has extensive experience in the development of smart cities. It was one of the first companies to work with local authorities on introducing such innovations.

“According to a report by IoT workgroup of the ministry of digitisation, the introduction of the smart city concept could become the driving force of the Polish economy, generating benefits for residents, public authorities and companies,” adds Maciej Staszak, a deputy CEO of Emitel.

The company is part of US group Alinda Capital Partners, which is an operator of terrestrial radio and television infrastructure in Poland. The company is also involved in the creation of smart cities and the preparation of the development of the 5G network in Poland.
