The Egzotarium will retain it is biological specimens and also become an educational centre

POLAND Sosnowiec city council has announced a tender for the construction of the Centrum Edukacji Ekologicznej – Egzotarium environmental education centre.

The project is to form part of the Zagłębiowski Park Linearny park revitalisation scheme for the Dąbrowa basin.

The new building is to replace the old Egzotarium (zoological and botanical pavilion) on the site. The building is to retain its collection of specimens, but will now also be a native plant and animal species educational centre. The building will have two rooms, fitted with computers, microscopes and multimedia systems, for biology and geography lessons as well as workshops, lectures and exhibitions. Animals will also be introduced to the palm house in addition to plants.

In December 2019, the town council annulled the first tender for the construction of the new Egzotarium – the budget was PLN 37 mln but the cheapest bid exceeded it by more than PLN 50 mln and the most expensive by around 90 mln. Bids for the latest tender can be submitted until February 18th, with the project to be carried out within 24 months from the handover of the construction site. The animals and plants are to be relocated during the construction work.
